Power BI Custom Visuals

At the moment five of our Power BI custom visuals, "KPI Matrix", "KPI Tree", "Maps", "Symbol Chart" and "Variance Chart", are available on Microsoft AppSource. You can import them easily using the "Get more visuals" function in Power BI Desktop or Power BI Service.

KPI Matrix Power BI Certified

KPI Matrix

KPI Matrix is a powerful visual that lets you display multiple KPI cards in a structured row, column, or full matrix layout—like no other Power BI visual can. It’s ideal for showcasing how your key metrics relate to one or two dimensions simultaneously, using a clean, compact, and highly customizable format. Each card in the matrix presents actual and target values (or any two comparable measures), along with an intuitive visual indicator of the variance—choose from directional arrows, text color, or background color. For deeper insights, enhance cards with mini charts that illustrate current or historical trends in two distinctive styles. Users can drill into these mini charts to reveal more or less detail as needed.

The matrix is built from individual KPI cards, and both row and column headers can contain descriptive text or images. These headers, like the cards themselves, are interactive and can be used to filter or highlight data across your report. With conditional formatting, background colors can also represent data values, effectively turning the entire visual into a heatmap.

Whether you want to show many KPIs without manually arranging each one, or embed your KPI cards within an interactive matrix for dynamic filtering and analysis, KPI Matrix offers the flexibility and functionality you need.

KPI Tree

KPI TreeKPI Tree is a powerful visual that lets you display multiple KPI cards in an expandable and collapsible hierarchy—perfect for showing how key metrics are distributed and aggregated across organizational structures, product lines, regions, or any multi-level category.

Instead of a flat layout or matrix, KPI Tree organizes your KPIs into a dynamic tree view, making it easy to drill down through hierarchical levels for detail or collapse branches to maintain a clean overview. Each node in the tree represents a KPI card, which can display actual and target values (or any two comparable measures), along with a visual indicator that highlights the variance—ranging from directional symbols to customizable icons.

For additional insight, each card can include mini charts that visualize trends for actual and target values or their variance over time.

KPI Tree is fully interactive: selecting any node can filter or highlight other visuals in your report. The visual adapts dynamically to your data model and supports extensive formatting options for KPI cards and indicators—ensuring clarity and impact even in large, complex structures.

Whether you want to track performance across business units or explore KPIs by category and subcategory, KPI Tree gives you a structured, intuitive way to present key metrics in context.

Maps Power BI Certified

Maps

Maps is a highly versatile custom visual for Power BI that empowers you to visualize geographically related data on one of over 200 built-in global and regional maps—without relying on external map services or an internet connection. Whether you're displaying sales by region, tracking logistics routes, or highlighting performance across markets, Maps delivers powerful geographic insights in an interactive and visually engaging way.

Choose from a wide range of visualization styles: use area coloring (choropleth), point markers, mini charts, or even labeled routes and complex connections using geo-coordinates. Each map element—area, point, or line—can be individually formatted and selected, allowing you to present your KPIs with maximum clarity and control.

Maps supports intuitive user interaction, including panning, zooming, rotating, drilling, and selecting map elements to filter other visuals. Features like auto-centering help keep the map view focused on selected data points, making navigation and analysis smoother and more user-friendly. Multiple projection types and detailed formatting options ensure your visual is tailored to your exact needs.

Symbol Chart Power BI Certified

Symbol Chart

Symbol Chart is a versatile and powerful custom visual for Power BI that lets you create sophisticated infographics with ease—perfect for connecting data to real-world objects in an intuitive and visually engaging way.

Choose from over 60 built-in symbols or import your own to design charts that are both meaningful and visually striking. The flexible layout system, supported by an innovative layout model, allows you to arrange symbols in rows, columns, or grids, and to control spacing, alignment, and flow direction.

Use Symbol Chart as a single chart or display multiple categories side by side using horizontal or vertical multiples—ideal for comparison scenarios and easy chart maintenance. Enhance your visual with color legends, category selection, and full interactivity with other visuals on the report page.

Variance Chart Power BI Certified

Variance Chart

Variance Chart enables you to create professional, IBCS®-compliant column or bar charts that clearly visualize differences between two measures—such as actual vs. target values. It separates the two values into distinct colored areas, making variance instantly recognizable and easy to interpret.

Built with the International Business Communication Standards (IBCS®) in mind, Variance Chart supports features like striped columns for forecasts, reversed indicators, and flexible formatting options. It also includes a lollipop-style percentage chart that can be shown in addition to the main variance chart.

Designed for business reporting and financial dashboards, Variance Chart supports hierarchical data through drill-down functionality, handles negative values correctly, and allows detailed customization to fit your report's style and structure.
